The three groups

• Essential is only the record of your own cookie choice. It cannot be turned off, because turning it off is what it records.
• Analytics counts how many people read which entries. It never identifies you by name.
• Marketing measures advertising. These are the ones that can follow you to other websites, which is why they are off unless you switch them on.

What a cookie is, briefly

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so it can recognise you on a later page or a later visit. Some are needed to make a site work, such as staying signed in. Others exist to follow you between websites and build an advertising profile. Which of those apply here is set out in the table above, and the second kind never runs without your permission.

How your choice is honoured

The decision is enforced in code, not by policy. Nothing in the analytics or marketing groups is loaded by the page at all until consent is recorded, so a rejected tool never runs and never sees your IP address. This is opt-in, not opt-out.

If anything new is added it appears in the table above before it runs, and you are asked again. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.

Controlling cookies generally

Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking them will not break anything here: nothing on this site depends on a cookie to function.
