I have been posting photographs from the road for years, and the thing that keeps coming up in my messages is not what camera do you use. It is where exactly was that, and would I like it.

Those are hard questions to answer in a caption. A caption is a sentence and a location tag. It cannot tell you that the light is best in the late afternoon, or that the parking is awkward, or that the place is worth an hour rather than a whole morning.

So this is the longer version.

What you will find here

Each entry is one place. Expect the practical parts alongside the pretty ones: when to go, what it costs, how long to give it, and whether I would go back. Photographs throughout, because that is still the reason most people end up here.

Some entries will be a single afternoon. Others will be a whole weekend broken into a rough itinerary you can borrow.

Where the name comes from

A postcard is a small promise. Somebody stood in a place, decided it was worth seeing, and thought of you while they were there. That is the whole idea, and it is a better description of what I am doing than content creator ever was.
